Thoughts on a social society

Social media can be a great tool if used properly. It provides many outlets of communication such as being used as an informative and alerting device for emergencies. It can also bring many long distance families together. However, social media has been used as a way to communicate information that is not needed for the public eye. I agree with Jon Ronson's point of view of people becoming "unpaid shaming interns". Many people get caught up with what is trending without really questioning that point of view. People have destroyed other people's life because of misunderstood tweets and other social media posts. As a society, we have become judgmental and hypocritical.
There are some benefits of posting people's racial comments or criminal situations in social media. It helps people become aware of what's going on in the world. These videos have helped shine light and bring justice by bringing people together and protesting about it. However, in Justine's case she was misinterpreted and bashed for it. I think there are opportunities to meet nice people but we have to be careful with who we interact. Unfortunately, many people have used social media negatively and have used it as a way to compare themselves or others. It's important to be mindful about who we select to interact with.
