#1) Some great ways to be active can be more simple than expected. A person can walk or bike to work as opposed to taking the bus. A person can even do strength training exercises in their seat at work which engages their core. Going to the gym, communal sports, swimming, and hiking are other options that are available, both indoor and outdoor.

#2) Living in NYC, I walk very frequently. This is just one built in exercise that I must commit to given that I have to get to and from work and get around without a car. Additionally, I go up and down several flights of stairs both at work and at home. On top of this, I like to frequent the gym at least 3/4 times per week. Luckily, my employer provides us with a gym membership to a nearby facility which is even more convenient. The gym is demanding yes, but I set a goal for myself that requires me to commit to going every other day. This takes the pressure off of going each day of the week.

#3) Because going to the gym helps me to stay mentally healthy, in addition to physically healthy, I am committed to the routine. If I skip work outs, I notice that my mood and happiness declines. Therefore, it is not really a choice between being active versus non-active or finding a balance- it is a necessary requirement to stay sane and mentally well. Yes, living in NYC sometimes makes it hard to get to the gym, but I try to not put too much pressure on myself. As long as I go on the weekends if I am too tired during the week, then I can feel good about my goals.
