Answer #1: Yes, especially over the course of my college years. I went through some major losses in my life while trying to balance a heavy workload. I noticed when I was ignorant to my emotional state I had an inability to make healthy choices for myself. I tended to procrastinate more often, avoid social activities, eat poorly, and exercise very little. In order to de-stress, my first step is always to journal. Once I become aware of emotions and why I am feeling a certain way, then it becomes more manageable to take the next steps to improve my wellbeing. My next steps are to get my body moving, step outside, and reach out to a friend.
Answer #2: I think I am an overall positive person. I am always trying to see the good in situations and the good in people. So, I try to offer myself grace when I find myself in a moment of negativity or pessimism. We all need a moment to decompress. This being said, if negative thoughts are persistent, then I usually will try to trace where that negative thought is stemming from. Typically, a pessimistic outlook on a small detail is related to a bigger, deeper dilemma.
Answer #3: I think being more present in everyday decision making and activities is attributed to mindfulness. As I am performing an act or making a choice, I must consciously be aware of the purpose of this action and/or decision. By having a clear understanding of the reasoning behind each action/choice I can make healthier, more efficient choices.
