Question #1. Have you ever been in a situation where your perception has been affected by possible low brain function caused by stress? Describe how you felt during this situation and what steps you took to destress.
During those situations, I usually feel like there’s this invisible bubble around me that’s closing in and I hear a million voices in my head speaking incredibly fast. It makes my head spin and I feel like my life is in fast-forward and slow motion at the same time. Throughout the years, I used to just repress the feelings and close my eyes to destress, but in recent years I’ve come to embrace the feelings and express out loud how I’m feeling. I’ll take deep breaths and state “I am stressed. I am anxious.” By hearing these words I’m able to alleviate the stress and my brain can connect what is happening and calm my senses down. Other ways I destress is I draw out or write my feelings through characters from books or media that I connect to.
Question #2. How have you overcome negative thoughts or pessimism?
I overcome negative thoughts or pessimism by expressing my feelings through art. I’ll draw characters from books/media that I connect to. Also, I’ll listen to music that either correlates with how I feel or that counters how I feel.
Question #3. How can you be more present and intentional in your everyday decision making and activities?
I can be more present and intentional in my everyday decision by thinking of others and their happiness that I impact with my decisions. Also, I can be thoughtful and reflective on my decisions for the day- what made me happy? What didn’t? What can make my life and others successful and fulfilling in the moment but also in the long run?
