  1. Have you ever been in a situation where your perception has been affected by possible low brain function caused by stress? Describe how you felt during this situation and what steps you took to destress.

At times, I’ve felt stressed about the amount of work that is due for graduate school and work, while being in the process of purchasing my childhood home altered my ability to think coherently and act more aggressively towards others. To destress, I decided to take a mental health day from work. During this day, I treated myself to a massage and a movie, while simultaneously enjoying my favorite foods (ice cream and a bacon cheeseburger). I also made sure to take a long nap which I greatly benefited from. I also took my time when completing assignments for graduate school and work; I would plan my lessons for the following week on a Friday afternoon, and I would complete my graduate school assignments during the weekend.

  1. How have you overcome negative thoughts or pessimism?

I normally overcome negative thoughts and pessimism by relaxing and watching tv or movies. Sometimes I go for walks around my neighborhood. As a last-ditch effort, I normally chant affirmations to myself about things I’m good at.

  1. How can you be more present and intentional in your everyday decision making and activities?

In my everyday decision making and activities I can be more present and intentional by managing my time better in terms of completing assignments early, as well as ensuring that I get enough rest at night so I’m not exhausted during each day. I also think that I could exercise more to ensure my mental health and eat a lot healthier than I’ve been doing.
