Question #1. Have you ever been in a situation where your perception has been affected by possible low brain function caused by stress? Describe how you felt during this situation and what steps you took to destress.
Yes, there have been several times while teaching in front of a classroom in which I have had outside stressors on my mind. This is sometimes compounded by lack of sleep. Not only am I unable to communicate as clearly and effectively to young students, but my patience decreases. I sometimes find myself more irritable in these situations and less likely to offer students the best support they need. To destress, I try to get a good night's sleep and go to the gym. Physical activity helps to alleviate the stress, both physically and mentally.
Question #2. How have you overcome negative thoughts or pessimism?
I have a series of "intentions" written down, that I sometimes vocalize aloud. The intentions remind me of finding peace. An example would be: "I now choose to love. I approve of myself and see others with love" I might vocalize this intention three or four times while tapping on my chakras. This helps to calm me down and acts as a form of meditation.
Question #3. How can you be more present and intentional in your everyday decision making and activities?
It might be a good practice to talk with others to see their opinion, so as to have a more a fully rounded perspective. It is also important to feel prepared for the day by making sure all lessons are planned and I have a clear idea of the schedule of the day. This allows me to be more present in the moment by giving me a more overarching idea of the what the day holds and how much time I have to get everything done accordingly.
