Why is online gaming so popular? Are there drawbacks to being engaged in these activities? Do you think they offer opportunities for learning or are they just passive pastimes?
Online gaming is so popular because it can connect people from all over the world in the comfort of their homes or bedrooms. It allows people to conveniently create an identity for themselves and compete in a game their peers are also invested in. Too much engagement I believe can lead to social isolation. Humans learn social behavior by experiencing social situations with other people. Gaming too much can deprive people of those experiences and affect their social behavior when experiencing life outside of gaming. I do believe they offer opportunities for learning, if framed the correct way online games can be a learning opportunity for students.
How do you manage your study schedule when faced with doubt about your capacity to engage, learn, and succeed?
I write out my to do list for the week every Sunday and try to determine the most efficient way to complete the tasks I have for the week.
What do you do to help yourself remember new things? For example, do you create concept maps to link connected ideas? Share some of your ideas.
To remember new things I try to think of ways a new ideas connects to things I already know and things that I do not know. The more I actively integrate new information with old information, the more I can remember that information.
